Lisa Kudrow Is Not Adopting Matthew Perry’s Dog Despite Reports that He Didn’t Have One

Prior to his untimely passing on Saturday, Matthew Perry had no dogs. A source told PEOPLE that the late actor did not own a dog at the time of his death, despite numerous reports suggesting that Lisa Kudrow, who costarred in Friends, would adopt the late actor’s dog.

Perry and his former partner Molly Hurwitz had a dog named Alfred, which they shared. The couple started dating in 2018, became engaged in November 2020, and announced their separation in June 2021.

Alfred has been a constant presence on Hurwitz’s Instagram ever since their breakup. She shared a post in September with several pictures and an explanation of her deep bond with the dog.

“Three is Alfred. Though he can be incredibly obnoxious at times, he is the most affectionate potato. He came into my life at a really dark time in my life, and he helped pull me out of it. In addition, he is very cute. “Cheers to you, #adoptdontshop Alfredo ” she added.

Hurwitz wrote a lengthy Instagram tribute on Monday, reflecting on their time together and saying that Perry has had “a more profound impact” on her adult life than anybody else.

In a joint statement that PEOPLE exclusively acquired, Kudrow, 60, and her fellow Friends cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer discussed Perry’s passing.

“The loss of Matthew has hurt us all so much. We were not just coworkers on the show. As they put it, “We are a family. “There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”

The message goes on, “In time we will say more, as and when we are able.” “For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”

In an October 2022 PEOPLE cover story interview, Perry talked about the tight relationship among the Friends cast members and how they helped him through his issues with substance misuse.

“They were understanding, and they were patient,” added Perry. Like penguins, actually. When a penguin becomes ill or severely injured in the wild, the other penguins gather around it, support it, and move on until the sick penguin is able to walk on its own. And in a way, the cast fulfilled that for me.”

An exclusive statement from the late actor’s family released with PEOPLE revealed Perry’s passing. The results of the autopsy are awaiting toxicology testing, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed to PEOPLE on Sunday.
