California residents who are qualified can get a tax refund of up to $12,076 all at once. They will only get this money, though, if they are also qualified for benefits from the three programs below:
- California Earned Income Tax Credit (CaIEITC): Individuals or families in California earning $30,950 or less annually can benefit from this program, receiving $3,529 for the 2023 tax year.
- Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC): California families with an income of $30,931 or less, having a qualifying child under 6 years old by the end of the tax year, and applying for the CaIEITC can receive up to $1,117 per eligible tax return.
- Federal Earned Income Tax Credit: This program is specifically for individuals eligible for the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit whose primary taxpayer and spouse were former or current foster youth placed in the California foster care system at least 13 years old. Eligible individuals can receive up to $1,117 or $2,234.
To access the CaIEITC, YCTC, and FYTC benefits, individuals must file their state taxes. Additionally, to receive the federal EITC, they must file a federal tax return with the IRS.
