Westworld is an American dystopian science fiction Western television series created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy that first aired on October 2, 2016, on HBO. It’s based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 movie of the same name, which he also wrote and directed, and on its 1976 follow-up, Futureworld.
At the start of the story, there are robot “hosts” living in Westworld, a made-up, high-tech amusement park with a Frontier theme. High-paying guests can live out their wildest dreams in the park without worrying about being hurt by the hosts, who are programmed not to intentionally hurt humans. What Was the Final Episode About?
Westworld has shown that people will always be able to destroy themselves. Even though we don’t need many outside forces to destroy ourselves, the end of the human race might need one. That event takes the form of William’s (Ed Harris) last game.
Just to be clear, William, a.k.a. “The Man in Black,” is no longer alive. In last week’s show, his robot counterpart finally killed him for good. But The Man in Black’s evil spirit lives on in the host that was meant to take his place. William host said he has often felt lost and lacking. He doesn’t understand his true purpose until his last conversation with the real William.
William, both the real William and the speaker William, love games more than anything else. The more important the games, the better. William no longer wants to “win” the “game” of Westworld by finding the maze’s center. He wants to “win” the game of life. He breaks into Hale’s tower to make everyone crazy enough to kill. After that, he goes out into the chaos to show that he is the best of all the survivors. He says it himself, making him sound like a really crazy gamer: “I just turned it up to expert level.” “Own the fittest lives.”
That’s cool, but William is definitely not one of the best. When Hale gets better, she kills him and breaks his pearl in the palm of her robotic hand.
