Suits: L.A. Spinoff casts Josh McDermitt: A new cast member and more character details have been revealed for the spinoff pilot Suits: L.A., which features Arrow’s Stephen Amell. Suits: L.A. has added a brand-new cast member.
The new series is a spin-off of the popular legal drama Suits, which gained huge popularity on streaming platforms like Netflix and Peacock in 2023. Despite ending its nine-season run in 2019, it continued to captivate audiences with its compelling storylines and characters.
The pilot, which was recently ordered by NBC, is being developed with showrunner Aaron Korsh and is set to star Stephen Amell as untrustworthy ex-federal prosecutor Ted Black. Black relocated from New York City to Los Angeles, but his past comes back to haunt him when he reluctantly assumes a pivotal position at his new firm.
Per Deadline, the Suits: L.A. spinoff has now added Josh McDermitt to star opposite Amell in the pilot. McDermitt will be playing the “energetic, powerful, focused, and self-absorbed” Stuart Lane. Lane is a character who has a history with Ted Black, having co-founded the criminal and entertainment law firm Black Lane Law with him a decade and a half ago.
Josh McDermitt’s Previous Roles: A Journey Before Suits: LA!
It remains to be seen if the new spinoff is able to run as long as the original Suits if it even gets on the air in the first place. However, if that happens, the cast of Suits: L.A. seems ready for the long run.
In addition to Amell having experience starring on the CW superhero show Arrow for eight seasons, McDermitt has proven his ability to embrace a show’s longevity by starring in eight seasons of the AMC zombie drama The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead premiered in 2010 and eventually ran for 11 seasons with 177 total episodes. On The Walking Dead, McDermitt played Eugene Porter, who joined the cast as a recurring character in season 4 before being promoted to an “also starring” role the following season and becoming an official member of the main Walking Dead cast in season 7.
His character, a manipulative former science teacher bearing false hope, became an integral part of the show and stayed on through its series finale in 2022. Although none of his other appearances have been quite as robust, he also has ample television experience outside the zombie show. The other shows that McDermitt has been a part of include Creepshow, Twin Peaks, Mad Men, and Angie Tribeca.
Before his role in Suits: LA, McDermitt was part of the cast of the short-lived sitcom Retired at 35, where he acted alongside George Segal, Jessica Walter, and Johnathan McClain. With his diverse experience across various genres, McDermitt is undoubtedly equipped to tackle any challenge that comes his way in Suits: LA.
