Lexi said on Instagram on July 25, 2018, that she was taking a break from golf. “The things that have happened to me on and off the golf course over the past year and a half have been very hard on my mind and heart,” she wrote. “I haven’t felt like myself in a long time.” So, I’m taking this time to clear my mind and focus on myself without having to think about professional golf.

Before she took a break, Thompson had a rough 18 months. There was a death in the family and her mother was given a second diagnosis of cancer. She also lost at the ANA Inspiration because she broke the rules and got a punishment.
Lexi liked her time off with her family and friends. A month later, at the Indy Women In Tech Championship, she played professional golf again. She told the press that the events of the last 18 months had made her feel overwhelmed and that she needed some time away to clear her mind. What Lexi said:
“I had to show that I was still okay and play golf even though I was going through a lot.” To be honest, I have no idea how I played that well. And I think it all hit me at the start of this year… That’s what people need to know. I am not just a machine here. “I need to live.”
