Netflix Cancels “The Brothers Sun” After Just One Season

Netflix has canceled The Brothers Sun, an action comedy-drama from rookie Byron Wu and co-creator Brad Falchuk of American Horror Story and Glee. The news was published on January 4, nearly two months after the eight-episode first season of the show, which starred Michelle Yeoh, Justin Chien, Sam Song Li, Joon Lee, and Highdee Kuan, debuted.

Reviews of The Brothers Sun were overwhelmingly positive, praising Oscar winner Yeoh’s outstanding performance. The program struggled to draw in viewers, spending five weeks at the top of Netflix’s English-language series rankings, where it peaked at number two.

Its weekly views remained below 7 million and fell below 2 million for its final two weeks in the Top 10, indicating a mediocre performance by Netflix standards. Charles Sun (Chien), a Taipei mobster, is the focus of The Brothers Sun, a dark comedy-drama and family soap opera that depicts his life as a merciless killer.

After an enigmatic assassin shoots his father, Charles must travel to Los Angeles to defend his mother (Yeoh) and his completely innocent younger brother Bruce (Li). Together with director Kevin Tancharoen, Mikkel Bondesen, and co-creator Wu, co-creator Falchuk executive produced and ran the show.
