Shannen Doherty is talking candidly about an altercation she had with Jennie Garth on the set of Beverly Hills, 90210, in which two of their co-stars had to intervene to keep things from getting worse.
In the Let’s Be Clear podcast episode from March 4, Doherty details Garth’s participation in a tradition known as “Pants-Down Day,” in which she would make fun of some of the crew members by pulling their trousers. However, Doherty claims that Garth’s practical joke “was starting to irritate” a few of them, which prompted Doherty to pull her own.
“I said Skirt-Up Day, flipping it around,” Doherty explains. I didn’t think it was a huge thing because [Garth] always wore the men’s Calvin Klein boxer shorts underneath her outfits, so I celebrated Skirt-Up Day. She really lost it on me, oh my god. Simply put, I wasn’t in the mood to give up.
In this episode, Doherty is joined by longtime friend and co-star Brian Austin Green, who describes the fight as “a monumental moment for everyone.” He even remembers entering the scene alongside co-star Ian Ziering “to prevent the situation from escalating.”
“The boys getting along so well has always impressed me tremendously,” Doherty tells Green. “You guys were consistently very encouraging and congratulatory of one another, whereas the girls were not the same.”
“Rather than saying it ‘wasn’t always necessarily the same,’ let’s simply say it wasn’t the same,” he responds. “It seems as though you are slightly embellishing the circumstances,” I recall that things got extremely competitive and harsh for you all. Observing that circumstance was not simple.

Before Doherty’s departure in 1994, Doherty and Garth portrayed best friends Brenda and Kelly for four seasons on the Fox drama. After that, Garth was cast as the female lead of the program and remained for its entire ten-season run. Since then, Doherty and Garth have appeared together on screen on numerous occasions, most notably in 2008 on The CW’s 90210 and again in 2019 on Fox’s BH90210.
Doherty’s Previous Marriage to Ashley Hamilton
Doherty wed Ashley Hamilton in 1993, but their marriage was dissolved a year later because of his drug problems. She said to Priestley, “I was afraid [Hamilton] would go get drugs, so I didn’t even want to leave the house.”
Doherty, who is currently battling stage 4 breast cancer, added that her father was also “extremely ill” at the time, but she refrained from telling producers and the cast how serious his illness was.
Priestley, 54, replied, “We only knew what we knew. I wish that I would have known more about what was happening in your personal life at the time so that I could have hopefully managed it with more compassion and more caring.”

The actress from “Heathers” stated she doesn’t “blame” the actors for not knowing what was going on in her personal life, but she does wish the producers had inquired further before deciding to remove her role from the program.
I kind of wish someone had taken me aside and told me, “Listen, this is how things are going to work out; you’re going to get fired, and none of us are going to put up with it anymore. I know you have problems in your personal life, but that can’t carry over to work.” You need to pull yourself together!
After reuniting with her former castmates on Fox’s “BH90210” series in 2019, Doherty previously opened up to them about her history.
