Following his detention on Wednesday, the rapper and son of music legend Cyndi Lauper was charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Friday marked the appearance of Declyn “Dex” Lauper in Manhattan Criminal Court. The judge imposed a cash bond of $20,000.
Tuesday, Lauper is anticipated to make his court appearance. The media player above contains a video from a prior report. He was apprehended on Wednesday evening subsequent to the deployment of law enforcement to a gunfire incident in Harlem.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., the 24-year-old victim was wounded in the leg on West 112th Street. During a search for evidence, police officers reportedly discovered Lauper, 26, in close proximity while he was in possession of a loaded firearm.
Additionally, the shooting victim faced criminal possession of a weapon charges. His condition at Mount Sinai Morningside is stable. David Thornton, an actor and Grammy-winning artist, is Lauper’s only sibling. He pled guilty to disorderly conduct in 2022 subsequent to his apprehension in a pilfered Mercedes. He pleaded not guilty to prison time.

After allegedly being found in possession of a gun, Cyndi Lauper’s troublesome kid was spared a weekend at Rikers when his actor father paid his bail with actual cash.
Following his rapper son Declan “Dex” Lauper’s arraignment on gun possession charges following a shooting in Harlem on Wednesday night, Lauper’s husband and “Law & Order” actor David Thornton idly spent several minutes at a court cashier window with an attorney.
Images of Thornton carrying many $100 dollars stacked in a brick were later verified by a source inside the courthouse. Thornton, who also starred in “The Notebook,” sat in the courtroom with a man who had an earphone on either side of him.
The prosecutor claimed that Lauper, 28, and another guy said, “It has already been sold,” to the Uber driver when they were being driven from Queens to 135th West 112th St. Prosecutors claimed that at that moment, five armed people surrounded the rapper’s car and fired a shot, hitting Lauper’s companion in the leg.

He allegedly asked replying offers to get a blue bag from his ride so the other man’s mother could pick it up at a smoke shop. He was spotted wearing a black fanny pack with white writing on it. However, prosecutors alleged that when police pursued Lauper into the business, they discovered a revolver in his black fanny pack and saw blood on his shoe.
Judge Set $20,000 as Bail Amount
A second firearm was discovered at the location of the shooting, as stated in a criminal complaint. Assistant District Attorney Harriet Jiranek stated in court, “The defendant and the separately apprehended individual drove to the location both armed with firearms with the intention of engaging in what appears to be illegal activity.”
According to sources for law enforcement, substances were also discovered on Lauper during his apprehension; however, no charges were filed against him.
Steven Brill, Lauper’s attorney, argued in favor of his release without bail in opposition to the prosecutors’ demand for $50,000 in cash bail. Brill substantiated Lauper’s release assertion by stating that he has been receiving guidance from a life coach, who advised him in the correct “direction.”

“By bringing that to your attention, he has privately contracted an additional layer of supervision to ensure that he is seen and supported upon his release throughout this case,” Brill explained.
Lauper, according to Brill, is “not a perpetrator but a victim” of a crime, and the evidence will demonstrate that he was “absolutely in the incorrect location at the incorrect time.” Judge Pamela Goldsmith set cash bond at $20,000 out of concern that Lauper might be apprehended at the smoke shop armed with a firearm.
Cyndi Lauper was not present at the court appearance of her troubled son. As a result of a plea bargain, Declyn Lauper avoided prison time in 2022 for stealing a Mercedes in front of the memorial of another rapper.
