Neve Campbell, who left the previous installment of the “Scream” franchise over a salary dispute, is expected to return for the seventh installment. By posting a screenshot of her copy of the “Scream 7” script on Instagram, the actress confirmed the news.
“I’m so excited to announce this news!!!” She penned. “Sidney Prescott will be returning!!!!” It has always been a tremendous honor and a delight to portray Sidney in the ‘Scream’ films. My admiration for these films and the significance they have had on me has never diminished. I am ecstatic and honored to announce that I have been politely requested to return Sidney to the screen. I could not be more delighted!!!”
Campbell further disclosed that “Scream 7” will be directed by Kevin Williamson, who authored the screenplay for the original “Scream” as well as its sequels “Scream 2” and “Scream 4.”

Guy Busick, who has collaborated with James Vanderbilt on the franchise’s two most recent installments, will pen the screenplay for the film. Although Vanderbilt is preoccupied with directing the film “Nuremberg,” he will remain on board as a producer and will not be contributing as a credited writer. In addition to producing, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directed “Scream” in 2022 and “Scream VI” in 2023.
“I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm,” Campbell stated. “And now, ‘Scream 7’ will be directed by none other than Kevin Williamson! This was his child, and the world was created by his creative intellect. In addition to being a great artist, Kevin has long been a close friend.”
She said, “To the amazing ‘Scream’ fans, I hope you are as excited as I am.” Williamson expressed his “overcome with gratitude and excitement” for the movie in a statement on Instagram. The film “Scream 7” will be Williamson’s sole other directorial effort since 1999’s “Teaching Mrs. Tingle.” He is renowned for developing television programs such as “Dawson’s Creek.”
“I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire ‘Scream’ family as we bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the ‘Scream’ franchise,” wrote Williamson. “To all of the ‘Scream’ fans, thank you. The gift that keeps on giving is you.”
Neve Campbell is Returning to ‘Scream’ After Acting in first Five Installments
From 1996 to 2022, Campbell portrayed Sidney Prescott in the initial five installments of the “Scream” franchise. However, he disqualified himself from returning for the 2023 installment “Scream VI.” She informed Variety in 2022 that the salary offer made to her for the sequel “did not correspond with the contribution I have made to the franchise.”

“Scream VI” was the subsequent installment in the horror franchise, following the relaunch “Scream,” which was released in 2022 and featured both returning and new cast members.
