A Jason Bourne movie is currently in development at Universal Pictures. The sixth edition of the franchise is currently in the early stages of development, with All Quiet on the Western Front filmmaker Edward Berger being considered for the directing role. Nevertheless, the project lacks a writer or script. Whether Matt Damon will play Jason Bourne again is still unknown.
Author Robert Ludlum’s creation, Jason Bourne, serves as the inspiration for the Bourne film series. Five movies and a spin-off TV show are part of the franchise. Known for their realistic stunts, the movies have brought in over $1.6 billion for Universal. With five films (four of which starred Matt Damon) and over $1.6 billion in box office receipts, the next film would be the most recent entry in the successful franchise.
Significant Return To Jason Borne’s World
Any significant return to Jason Borne’s world may be far off since the project is still in its early stages of development, according to those familiar with it. At this time, it remains unknown if the original cast will return or if the project will be completely rebooted due to the lack of attachment of both a script and a writer to the potential movie.
Hence, it’s too soon to tell if ensemble members like Damon, who most recently reprised his role as the amnesiac assassin in 2016’s “Jason Bourne” after playing it in 2002’s “The Bourne Identity,” will make a comeback. In 2012’s “The Bourne Legacy,” Jeremy Renner portrayed black ops agent Aaron Cross. This is also accurate; however, it seems more likely that the former was involved.
More About The Latest Addition To An Esteemed Roster Of “Bourne” Filmmakers
If a contract goes through, Berger would become the latest addition to an esteemed roster of “Bourne” filmmakers, which includes Tony Gilroy (“The Bourne Legacy”), Doug Liman (“The Bourne Identity”), Paul Greengrass (“The Bourne Supremacy”), 2007 (“The Bourne Ultimatum”), and 2016 (“Jason Bourne”).
The World War I epic “All Quiet on the Western Front,” which Berger most recently helmed, took home four Oscars, including the Best International Feature Film honor. Focus Features bought the U.S. distribution rights to his upcoming thriller, “Conclave,” starring Ralph Fiennes and John Lithgow, earlier this month. Range Media Partners, CAA, and Casartto Ramsey & Associates represent Berger. The deadline for reporting on the project’s development was the first. Universal remained silent.
