A student who tracks celebrities’ private jets claims Taylor Swift‘s lawyers have threatened to prosecute him for revealing her flight information online. Jack Sweeney uses publicly available data to follow the takeoffs and landings of rich planes and then posts the results one day later.
Swift’s lawyers argue the tracking is tantamount to “stalking”. Twitter suspended Mr Sweeney in 2022 after Elon Musk accused him of disclosing his “assassination coordinates”.
Swift’s attorneys have sent a cease-and-desist letter to Mr Sweeney, a 21-year-old University of Central Florida student, requesting that he stop disclosing the whereabouts of her private jet.
The letter, released in December, states that the material poses “an imminent threat to Swift’s safety and well-being,” describing it as a “life-or-death situation” for her. It mentions various stalkers she has dealt with in her profession and claims that the data provides criminals with “a roadmap to carry out their plans”.
In December, Swift’s attorney issued a cease-and-desist letter to Sweeney, stating that if Swift continued his “stalking and harassing behavior,” Sweeney would be “forced to pursue any legal remedies.”

The singer asserted that Sweeney’s social media profiles have inflicted “direct and irreparable harm” and “emotional and physical distress” upon her and her family. The Post was provided with a copy of the letter by Sweeney.
Although Swift declined to comment on ongoing police investigations, a spokesperson verified that the jet-tracking online accounts are associated with the singer’s stalkers.
Sweeney stated that he believes the incident was intended to intimidate him into disclosing public information. Swift and other celebrities have faced criticism regarding the environmental impact of their private jet usage. According to the Post, Sweeney’s accounts were referenced in a 2022 study which concluded that Swift was one of the largest carbon dioxide producers among celebrities in 2022.

Afterwards, Meta, the corporation that owns Facebook and Instagram, blocked his accounts. The Post stated that Swift’s attorney subsequently sent a second letter in which they claimed Sweeney was engaging in “harassing conduct.”
Swift’s itinerary has garnered attention this week. She will play in Japan as part of her wildly popular “The Eras Tour” before her boyfriend Travis Kelce plays in the Super Bowl for the Kansas City Chiefs. There’s more than enough time for Swift to fly from her Tokyo gig to Las Vegas for the game, according to the Japanese Embassy in Washington, D.C.
