Gina Carano is suing Disney and Lucasfilm for discrimination and unlawful termination, an escalation of the impasse surrounding her dismissal from The Mandalorian. This litigation introduces an additional front in the struggle for control over Hollywood, which has attracted the attention of corporate America.
Carano, who was terminated from her position at Lucasfilm for expressing right-wing views on social media, files a complaint in California federal court on Tuesday. She is also seeking a court order compelling the company to recast her. Elon Musk, fulfilling his commitment to provide financial support for users alleging discrimination based on their conduct on his platform, is contributing to the litigation by means of X.
X’s head of business operations, Joe Benarroch, issued the following statement: “We are pleased to offer financial assistance for Gina Carano’s lawsuit, which serves as evidence of X Corp’s dedication to free speech. This support empowers Carano to pursue legal action against X for violating her free speech rights and for the right to work without fear of harassment, bullying, or discrimination.”

Lucas Film Firing Gina Carano
After publishing a post in which she stated, “Most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Naxi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews,” Lucasfilm announced in 2021 that Carano would not be returning to the popular series. What distinguishes that from detesting someone based only on their political beliefs?
It was the most recent in a lengthy series of messages where social media users attacked the former MMA fighter for taking stances on contentious matters that they perceived as being on the right. Carano, who was fired by UTA in the wake of the controversy, had before made fun of mask-wearing laws and made up allegations that voter fraud happened in the 2020 presidential election.
Carano’s Response to ElonMusk and X
Carano stated in a Tuesday X post that she had replied to Musk’s offer on X and, “to my surprise,” was contacted by an attorney for the company, which ultimately consented to fund her lawsuit.

Carano tweeted, “I would like to extend my utmost appreciation and gratitude to @ElonMusk and @X for providing me with the chance to bring my case to light.”
The lawsuit commences with the following statement: “Defendants established unequivocally, in a galaxy not too distant, that a single orthodoxy of thought, speech, or action was permissible within their empire. Individuals who dared to challenge or fall short of complete adherence were not tolerated.”
