Three decades have passed since veteran character actor John Candy, aged 43, passed away of a myocardial infarction. Candy’s two children honored their late father with heartfelt remarks on March 4, the anniversary of his passing.
“Today, thirty years ago… it seems like an eternity, both with and without you.” “I will always miss and love you,” Jennifer Candy-Sullivan, 44, wrote in the caption of an Instagram post.
“He was the greatest father,” Jennifer explains to TODAY.com. “He would advise, ‘Don’t be concerned with what others think of you. Simply be one’s genuine self.”
“The other thing about my dad, is that he was the ultimate family guy,” according to her. “For that particular reason, he declined to appear on ‘Saturday Night Live’.” He was cognizant of the fact that the way of life would not be satisfactory for his health. “He was astute in that regard.”
Finley John William, Jennifer’s 5-year-old son, was given the name of his grandfather. “He unquestionably resembles Candy.” Jennifer affirms, “He certainly has my father’s hair,” adding that the young child also bears a resemblance to his paternal grandfather.

While bereavement anniversaries can be challenging, Jennifer reports that she is “feeling strong” at the moment. “Last month, my childhood best friend died away. We spent our childhoods together, and she was acquainted with my father. “Her passing also caused me to miss my father,” Jennifer explains.

Christopher, 39, sibling of Jennifer, also paid homage to their father via Instagram on March 4. Candy is seen in the photo donning his distinctive Hawaiian print. “To my father, all my love today,” Chris, 39, wrote.
Candy’s Children Pursued Careers in Entertainment After Him
Candy’s two children went into show industry with him. Jennifer and Chris are both actors and writers. Candy’s comedic appearances in the 1980s, such as “Uncle Buck” and “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles,” are what made him most famous. Rosemary Margaret Hobor, an abstract painter and ceramicist, was his wife of fifteen years.
“He was a wonderful father and a regular guy,” Jennifer said to Entertainment Tonight in 2015. “Very similar to the roles he played in movies.”
Candy’s Passing
Candy passed away in Mexico during the 1994 filming of “Wagon’s East.”
“I was nine years old.” In 2016, Chris revealed, “It was a Friday,” in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter. “I will always remember that I said goodnight and I love you to him the night before he passed away,” the speaker recalled.
Jennifer, who was 14 at the time of Candy’s death, also remembered their final conversation. She told the publication, “So I was talking to him on the phone, and, I hate this, but I was slightly distant because I was studying.” I said, ‘Yeah, okay, I love you.'” Later, I shall speak with you. Good luck tonight. I hang up after that and return to my studies.

Jennifer and Chris claim that their family has a history of heart illness. Chris told the Hollywood Reporter, “He always worked on his weight and his health.” Thankfully, he assisted us in figuring it out on our own. Chris and Jennifer don’t mind when others see the similarities between them and their father because they can also see it.
Jennifer told the Hollywood Reporter, “At different times, both my brother and I look like my dad.” “That’s Chris if you look at him when he was younger. And that’s my face, my dad a little older. For me, it was connecting with my feminine side when I heard comments like “You look just like your dad,” to which I replied, “Thank you.” They would then retort, “But you’re so much more attractive than your dad!” My chuckle sometimes sounds just like my dad’s.
