Warner Bros. has set the date for Mickey 17 for January 31, 2025, which is a rather strange date for the much awaited sequel from Cannes Palme d’Or and Oscar winner Bong Joon-ho, who made the picture Parasite.
The date is significant because Warner Bros. will have Imax, and January of next year is crucial for wide releases. However, the studio chose this date in order to coincide with South Korea’s Lunar New Year.
This year’s Warner Bros. CinemaCon presentation features a significant portion of the title. Mickey 17 was originally scheduled to open on March 29, just after Dune: Part Two this year, but the strikes delayed its release. It wasn’t ready, as we kept hearing. Even still, there was still excitement among all that the science fiction film would be a Cannes blockbuster. The film was never intended to be a Cannes film.

Although this film’s Jan. 31 theatrical premiere suggests it won’t be ready for the 2024 Oscar season, an awards campaign might still be considered. In the upcoming weeks, the studio will be testing Mickey 17. As of January 31, Dog Man from Universal/DreamWorks Animation is available.
This year’s January saw five broad releases; based on the appearance of next year, we could use more. Apart from Dog Man and Mickey 17, there’s The Woman in the Yard from Universal/Blumhouse on January 10, Paddington from Sony in Peru, and an action movie starring Jason Statham from Amazon MGM over MLK. If we think that box office, theater attendance, and regular moviegoing are important, then the industry will want more.

Mickey17 is based on Mickey7, a novel by Edward Ashton. The tale centers on Mickey7, a disposable employee on a human expedition assigned to populate Niflheim, an ice world. The crew goes to Mickey if a task becomes too risky, even suicidal. A new body is created with the majority of the previous iteration’s memories preserved once it dies. Mickey7 is aware of the conditions of his agreement after six fatalities.and the reason it was the only vacant colonial post when he assumed it.
The film stars Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, and Robert Pattinson. Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Joon-Ho, and Dooho Choi are the project’s producers.
