The death of veteran Nollywood actor John Okafor, also referred to as Mr. Ibu, has been formally announced by Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria. The president stated that Mr. Ibu passed away from heart arrest.
“Today is a sad day for the Nigerian Actors Guild.” Don Nwuzor, Mr. Ibu’s manager of 24 years, said that Mr. Ibu had suffered a cardiac attack and that Kate Henshaw had lost her mother earlier today. I regret to inform you that Mr. Ibu was unable to make it. He posted on Instagram, wishing for the quiet of his spirit to rest.
On Saturday, March 2, 2024, it was announced that Mr. Ibu, who had been battling illness for several months, had passed away. Mr. Ibu was a ubiquitous name whose acting career brought joy to many families.

“The untimely demises of comedian and actor John Okafor, colloquially referred to as Mr. Ibu, and former Super Falcons goalkeeper Bidemi Aluko Olaseni are significant setbacks for our creative and sports sectors,” he stated.

Obi termed the passing of Mr. Ibu “devastating,” further stating that he was a legendary comedic actor who personified mirth, radiated delight, and disseminated joy.
