Actor Kenneth Mitchell, who starred in Marvel’s Captain Marvel and the television series “Star Trek: Discovery,” passed away, according to a statement his family posted on his verified social media accounts on Sunday. He was 49.
The family released a statement saying, “With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son, and dear friend.”
In 2018, Mitchell received an ALS diagnosis. In recent years, he and his family have periodically updated each other on his condition. Mitchell shared a picture on Instagram in August to commemorate the fifth anniversary of his diagnosis.
“My brother made the amusing comment that the store doesn’t actually carry a happy ALS Anniversary card. But today, I want to honor the gift of life. I’m so grateful that I have today ahead of me. Five years is a long time. So much gained, so much lost. Amazingly difficult circumstances laced with a plethora of benefits, Mitchell wrote at the time.

“Friends, family, caregivers, and medical professionals who repeatedly come to my family’s rescue are the people at the center of it all. extending an abundance of love, support, caring, and inspiration. That is just very beautiful. This illness is horrifying beyond belief. But there are a lot of things for which to be thankful in spite of all the pain.
Some of the Notorious Achievements of
Mitchell, an actor of Canadian descent, accumulated over fifty film and television appearances throughout his career. He appeared in Marvel’s “Captain Marvel” (2019) as the father of Carol Danvers and as an Olympic contender in “Miracle,” a 2004 hockey film. Mitchell has appeared in “Switched at Birth,” “Jericho,” and “The Astronaut Wives Club,” among dozens of other television series.
Between the years 2017 and 2021, Mitchell portrayed Aurellio, the Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik, on “Star Trek: Discovery.” In 2017, he told StarTrek.com, “Whether someone is good or bad is all about perspective, and it’s about understanding that culture.” “Once the audience becomes acquainted with the Klingons through our program, they will be able to discern whether or not we are, in fact, the antagonists.”

Aside from his acting roles, Mitchell was remembered as a “dream believer, daydreamer, and seeker of hope” by his close friends and family. Mitchell’s family conveyed their profound reverence in a statement for the individual’s fortitude during his struggle with illness.
“They wrote, “Ken found a higher calling to be more completely himself for his children, notwithstanding his later disabilities.” “For the better part of five and a half years, Ken was beset by a succession of dreadful obstacles caused by ALS.” And in typical Ken fashion, he overcame each one with composure and a determination to live each moment to the fullest and most joyful. In addition to his wife Susan, Mitchell is survived by their two young daughters.
