During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, many Americans relied on stimulus checks from the government to support themselves when jobs were scarce.
These payments, totaling $1,400 each, were issued by the IRS as part of the American Rescue Plan Act in 2021. Throughout the pandemic, over 476 million payments totaling around $814 billion were distributed.
While the pandemic’s impact has lessened and most people are back to work, many are still facing financial difficulties.
However, it’s unlikely that there will be another round of stimulus checks, according to experts. The focus has shifted towards economic recovery, and additional stimulus payments are not currently on the agenda for lawmakers.
While federal assistance may not be forthcoming, some states are implementing programs to help residents financially.
For example, 14 states, including New York, offer child tax credits to help families cover the costs of raising children. Additionally, states like Pennsylvania provide property tax rebate programs to eligible residents as a way to recoup funds.
