Ratched Season 2: The Shocking Truth Behind Its Cancellation!

Ratched is an American psychological thriller streaming TV show that was created by Evan Romansky and developed by Ryan Murphy. Sarah Paulson plays the lead part of Nurse Mildred Ratched.

Rotten Tomatoes gathered 96 reviews for the first season and found that 61% of them were good, giving the show an average score of 6.3/10. Sarah Paulson told Variety in August 2022 that she doesn’t know if the second season will still happen. Ratched ended after one season in February 2024, and Paulson confirmed that the show would not be coming back.

Ratched was nominated for Emmys for its costumes and style. The project probably cost a lot, which could have been one reason why it was canceled. Also, Murphy was supposed to finish his overall deal with Netflix in June 2023 and go back to Disney, where he has the American Story franchise on FX and the first responder thriller 9-1-1 on ABC. During that time, it was said that Murphy would be able to keep working on the popular Netflix shows Monster and The Watcher, just like he did with his Disney projects before the Netflix deal.

Still, there haven’t been many reports on Ratched season 2 over the past three years. Actors and other people involved with the show have mostly said that they weren’t sure if Ratched would come back. This could be because Ratched’s budget could be expensive, Murphy had other responsibilities, and the show took a long break between seasons. Netflix may have thought it was easier to end the high-profile prequel than to go ahead with its planned follow-up for season 2.
