Threshold is an American science fiction drama television series that first aired on CBS in September 2005. The show, which was created by Brannon Braga, David S. Goyer, and David Heyman, is about a secret government project that looks into the first meeting with an alien species.
The show used to air on Friday nights, but it was moved to Tuesday nights to try to get more viewers. This plan didn’t work out as planned, as the show’s numbers dropped sharply on its first Tuesday night airing on November 22, 2005.

Threshold Season 2: Is It Happening?
Threshold cancels its second season. CBS ended the show on November 23, 2005, with four episodes still to air.
When the show moved to Tuesday, it had to fight with the popular show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. One week, it also had to go up against the American Music Awards. The show was canceled because the numbers went down because of this.
Producer David S. Goyer talked about why the show was canceled and what was planned for the next seasons:
“The problem with “Threshold” was that I think CBS was never really okay with it being a serialized show.” And the plan was always for it to be a continuous show. As the show went on, they wanted episodes to end on a more positive note. That has worked well for them, but that wasn’t really how we planned it to work, so it felt like we were stuck. I think the crowd also felt that which was a shame. There were three stages to the general plot of the show, which is what we had always planned. It was called “Threshold,” “Foothold,” and “Stranglehold.” In this case, “Threshold” means contact, “Foothold” means the aliens get a foothold, and “Stranglehold” means they defeat the natives and take over. Also, we were going to change the name of the show because of that plan. At first, there was contact, then they showed up, and now we are in a resistance war. We never did get that far, though.

How Was the Story Supposed to End?
According to writer Brannon Braga on the 2006 DVD release, the news that the show was ending production came in the middle of filming the episode “Alienville.” The episode’s ending was changed to show Molly talking to an alien-human baby in her dream.
The baby had been born in the episode, but in the dream, he was nine years old. Molly is told by the boy that her Threshold plan will finally work to stop the alien invasion. Based on the boy’s age, this will likely happen within nine years, but Molly will “not be there” (die) before this happens.
