The CEO of an Illinois-based technology company died in a bizarre accident while celebrating the company’s anniversary, according to CBS station WBBM-TV.
According to the Times of India, Sanjay Shah, CEO of Vistex, died as a result of injuries incurred in an accident during the company’s silver jubilee celebrations at Ramoji Film City in India. Police told the publication that the company’s president, Raju Datla, was also critically hurt.
Vistex had arranged for its staff to stay in Ramoji Film City and planned a two-day event to commemorate its 25th anniversary. According to a corporate representative who talked with The Times of India, the incident in which Shah and Raju were lowered from a cage onto the stage was a planned stunt to kick off the festivities.
According to a video posted by the New York Post, Shah and his colleague Datla entered an iron cage set to be lowered from an unidentified height during the celebrations on Thursday evening. One of the shackles broke, allowing both men to fall, with one crashing head-first on the ground. The incident is still under investigation, authorities confirmed Monday.

“All of a sudden, one of the cage’s two wires broke. Both fell more than fifteen feet to land on the concrete dais, according to authorities, as reported by the Times of India. “This caused multiple injuries.”
After being taken to a hospital by ambulance, the two were transferred to a corporate hospital, where their conditions remained severe. According to CBS, Datla sustained a serious head injury, and Shah hurt his hand and leg. According to CBS, Datla was categorized as critically ill on Monday, and Shah passed away in the hospital.
