They have taken steps to formally dissolve their marriage, Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez. A response from Gomez was filed immediately after the pop diva, 30, filed for divorce from the real estate agent, 28, on Monday, according to PEOPLE.
Grand and Gomez were “taking their time together to slowly work through the details of the agreement privately,” a source tells PEOPLE, but the divorce was filed two months after the couple’s split became public in July.
“During this entire process, they have shown each other such kindness and respect.” The insider tells PEOPLE that Grande and Gomez have “moved on,” calling their breakup “kind and patient.” Feb. 20, 2023, is the stated date of separation. Notification of the filing was originally reported by TMZ.
A source informed PEOPLE that Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez’s split was amicable in the wake of the announcement. Ari has nothing but good things to say about Dalton Gomez, the insider said, but the marriage “didn’t work” once the Grammy winner moved to London to film Wicked.
His admiration for her grew during their marriage. The now-ex couple started dating in January 2020 and officially announced their union in May of the same year when they shared an appearance in the music video for Grande’s song “Stuck with U,” which features Justin Bieber.
May 15, 2021, was their wedding day, and it was a modest ceremony following their December 2020 announcement of engagement. Despite the fact that the two kept their romance quiet, Grande posted a picture from their wedding day on her Instagram Story in May to commemorate their second wedding anniversary.
The post read, “I love him so.” Grande is presently dating her Wicked costar and Broadway alum Ethan Slater, sources confirmed to PEOPLE after the couple’s breakup. An infant was born in January to Slater and Lilly Jay, his high school classmate, whom he married in November 2018.
As of July, Slater and Jay were divorcing. Following Grande’s split from Gomez and Slater’s divorce from Jay, the new couple had a romantic relationship. According to a close family source who spoke to PEOPLE earlier, “the truth is, Ariana and Ethan didn’t begin seeing each other until after both parties were separated, gently.”
They are attempting to strike a balance between their public profile and their desire to show respect for all people involved, according to a second source with knowledge of the matter who spoke with PEOPLE about Grande and Slater.
Privately, the insider continued, “They are just attempting to navigate their new relationship.” The cast of Jon M. Chu’s cinematic adaptation of the popular Broadway musical Wicked includes Grande as Glinda and Slater as Boq. Irrespective of whether the SAG-AFTRA strike would have an impact on its premiere, the film started filming in the United Kingdom in 2022 and is scheduled for release in November 2024.
